Thrilling wildlife encounters

Field Note Submitted by:

Chrissy Clary

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is more than just a place to ogle reptiles; it's a rite of passage for Florida families. I can still remember going there as a kid. I was terrified!!! But my kid, he loved it!

It's the perfect mix of thrill and educational experience. It’s a heartwarming, slightly terrifying reminder of nature's wild side—and what kid doesn’t love a good gator story?

Discover Florida’s Ultimate Wildlife Attraction

Tucked away in the heart of St. Augustine, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm isn’t your average zoo. Since opening in 1893, it has earned its stripes as one of the most enduring—and reptile-packed—destinations in the Sunshine State.

  1. Get Face-to-Face with Crocodilians from Around the World

You’ll come eye-to-eye with every species of crocodilian on the planet—from Nile crocs to Indian gharials—all gliding in their habitats like living history.

2. Gators, Birds & Beyond

  • Rare albino alligators right at the entrance will stop you in your tracks.

  • Native bird rookery over “Alligator Swamp” offers a front-row view to herons, spoonbills, storks, and more during nesting season (March–June).

  • Marvel at Komodo dragons, climbing tortoises, sloths, and exotic parrots—and even a fossil exhibit tracing reptilian roots.

  1. Thrill-Seeking in the Wildlife Zone

For adrenaline junkies, there's Crocodile Crossing zip-line—fly over the animals across two courses with up to 26 lines and aerial obstacle challenges. Feeling brave? Try the Python Challenge, an over-40-foot rock-and-rope climb for extra bragging rights.

  1. Wildlife Shows & Behind-the-Scenes Encounters

Join keeper-led reptile and feeding shows that blend education with spectacle—kids learn, parents leave with popcorn-worthy stories. Or splurge on VIP experiences like sloth meet-and-greets or up-close time with giant tortoises.

  1. Perfect for the Whole Family

With a dedicated KidZone, playgrounds, fossil dig sites, and family-friendly exhibits—plus a snack bar (yes, they serve beer!)—you can easily spend a full, sun-soaked morning or afternoon here.

  1. Conservation at Its Core

This isn’t just entertainment. The farm is deeply committed to conservation, research, and education for endangered species—your ticket funds real-world wildlife efforts.
