We went on a Wander ’Bout there and discovered it’s perfect for a nature hike, offering a safe, educational, and utterly scenic day in the salt marsh.
Here are some key insights about the centre:
Animal Exhibits: Home to over 150 animals from 50 different species, each displayed in large, naturalistic habitats. Watching a bald eagle swoop overhead or a river otter at play is a highlight among outdoor activities in Savannah.
Educational Focus: Operated by the Savannah–Chatham County Public School System, Oatland Island emphasizes environmental education and discovery. It’s a living classroom for all ages, fostering wildlife appreciation and conservation—much like our experiences at Skidaway Island State Park.
